Buying a Used iPod

If you are looking for a used iPod for sale then you’ve come to the right place. We list hundreds of second hand iPods from private sellers and small businesses.

Apple tend to release a new generation of each iPod model every year, usually around September. There is a type of consumer that must have a brand new model, even if they have a previous generation, so there are always plenty of used iPods available for sale. Most of these are still in excellent condition and will last for years.

Buying a used iPod can save you a good chunk of your hard-earned money. For example a second hand iPod Touch 3rd Gen 16GB can be picked up for around £75 compared to £193 for a new 8GB model. That is quite a saving for something that will essentially do the same thing. Okay some older models are not as quick, but they still run most apps and play all music.

So what choices do you have when looking for a second hand ipod? Well, the four models are the Touch, Nano, Classic and Shuffle. We go into more detail on each model in our specific buying guides so follow the links to check them out.

If you want a smaller, music-only device then the iPod Shuffle or iPod Nano will be the best choice. There is no point getting something with functions you won’t use. For access to the app store then an iPod Touch is ideal. It is basically an iPhone without the phone if that makes sense. For the hardcore muso, with hundreds of albums then an iPod Classic is needed. The USP on this model is capacity – up to 160GB of it on newer generations.

A few general factors should be considered when buying a used iPod regardless of the model:

Generation: Each model is up to around the 6th generation now so try to stick within 2-3 generations or the item may not be able to cope with newer apps or larger file sizes.

Condition: Make sure the condition is listed as at least Good as, being a portable device, a used iPod can get damaged easily.

Price: Try to stick to your budget, using our guide prices and other auctions as a measure. Don’t get into a bidding war on a 2nd hand iPod as you will overpay. There are plenty of them around so just find another listing if it looks too competitive. Auction fever can grip us all, making us pay silly prices in the heat of battle!
