This is the best smartphone on the market right now. And it’s been out now for 14 months. With the late arrival of the White iPhone 4 this summer, the iPhone 4 continues to sell in big numbers, meaning a healthy amount of used iPhone 4’s being available. Plus expect more to come onto the market if an iPhone 5 arrives in the autumn.
Unlike the 3GS, which had no cosmetic changes, the iPhone 4 ushered in a new design reminiscent of MacBook Pro’s, with their almost Germanic approach to solidity. New buttons also have a premium feel to them, a bit more Audi than Austin.
Part of the reason for this is a new stainless steel frame that would act as an antenna to help improve the iPhones reception. Let’s be honest: if the iPhone has been brilliant at bringing a better web experience to mobile phones, it’s hardly advanced the world of signal level and call quality. So Apple tried to with the iPhone 4. This did lead to complaints about signal drop when the iPhone 4 was held in a particular way.
Apple responded with a software fix to the way the signal meter worked on iOS as well as offer free ‘bumpers’ that surround the metal edge as a cover. Antenna-gate doesn’t seem to have hindered sales though given the sheer ubiquity of this latest iPhone. It is for good reason too: the camera is now not only 5MP but also excellent with a great HDR mode, front and rear cameras enable FaceTime, the processor is faster than ever and it has 512MB of RAM (4 times that of the original iPhone) all helping with great performance.
Storage for your data is also up to 32GB if you want to pay for it.
So is the iPhone 4 also a used no-brainer? Well the best comes at a price. A brand new iPhone 4 without any subsidy from a mobile network will cost you from over £500. This is still the latest iPhone so even used you will have to pay over £350.
