UPDATE!: As if downloading 3.7GB wasn't enough...

The first Software Update to OS X Lion, 10.7.1 is now available.

This 10.7.1 update was expected quite quickly after the release of Lion in order that Apple could quickly roll out any urgent bug fixes that would only become apparent once the finished OS was out in the wild. This was also the case with the previous OS X releases 10.6 Snow Leopard and it's older sibling 10.5 Leopard.

According to Apple:

"The 10.7.1 update is recommended for all users running OS X Lion and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability and compatibility of your Mac, including fixes that:

  • Address an issue that may cause the system to become unresponsive when playing a video in Safari
  • Resolve an issue that may cause system audio to stop working when using HDMI or optical audio out
  • Improve the reliability of Wi-Fi connections
  • Resolve an issue that prevents transfer of your data, settings, and compatible applications to a new Mac running OS X Lion"
UsedMac recommends that all Lion users update to this via Software Update.

Twitter for Mac update through App Store

| Latest News | January 12, 2011

Twitter for Mac Updated

Twitter have issued an update to the Twitter for Mac app through Apple's App Store. In what appears to be our first App Store delivered update, version 2.0.1 of the son of Tweetie and the official Twitter for Mac client is now available.

You are alerted of the new update in much the same manner as on iOS, with a badge appearing on the App Store icon in your dock:

Badge: 1 Update Available

Clicking on the App Store as you would expect shows the Update page (tab?) illuminated it and again clicking on it brings up the Update in question with a description of what's been fixed. In Twitter's case this:

  • Fixed a crash when blocking a user from search results
  • Fixed a crash with non-Roman input sources
  • Fixed problems with Window Positioning
  • Fixed @mention streaming with tweets indirectly addressed to you
  • Spaces behaviour improved
  • UI Tweaks

Having used Twitter all week I hadn't noticed any of these issues but its good to see some good old spit and polish going into the application now that it's live to the world.

iOS 4.1 now available!

| Latest News | September 8, 2010

iOS 4.1 has been released and is currently making its way onto my iPhone 3g.

iOS 4.1 is an update for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The iPad is due to join these devices on iOS with the arrival of v4.2 in November. iOS 4.2 will bring multitasking and other iOS 4.1 features to the iPad.

iOS 4.1: It's here. Rejoice!

As we have previously reported, iOS 4 has caused users of the iPhone 3G numerous headaches with poor performance and stalling. It is hoped this will fix these issues. iPhone 3G users won't see any of the new features such as HDR (High Dynamic Range) photos and the Games Centre, which will only be available for those with the iPhone 4. The ability to upload HD videos via Wifi as well as play TV rentals on the iPhone and iPod Touch are also new to iOS 4.1

Other major fixes relate to the proximity centre and Bluetooth connectivity problems with some In Car systems.

I'll have a full walkthrough later as well as review iPhone 3G performance improvements.
