The MacBook Pro MC700B/A is the entry-level model for the Apple laptop range now the MacBook has been retired and replaced with 13-inch Pro’s. The MC700B/A has an Intel Core i5 Processor running at 2.3GHz, 4GB RAM and a 320GB hard drive all encased in a unibody aluminum case with an LED backlit screen.
The MacBook Pro 13” MC700B/A is available at the Apple Store for £999 but it is possible to get it cheaper from other online retailers. The price comparison table below shows the todays cheapest prices from over 30 of the leading retailers in the UK.
Apple is using the latest Intel dual-core and quad-core processors for this generation of MacBook Pro, with this 13” model, the MC700B/A, using the dual-core i5. These are still up to twice as fast as the previous generation MacBook Pro.
The 13 Inch models have some decent specifications until it comes to the graphics. Using shared memory to a maximum of 384MB, the MC700B/A is not really capable of serious design work or gaming. However, since when did people buy a 13 inch laptop to design on? As a compact, portable laptop for everyday use then the MacBook Pro 13” 2.3GHz is a perfectly good choice.
One of the best aspects of the MacBook Pro in recent times has been the battery life. If you were to simply use this on the go for basic applications and wireless web access then you are looking at a maximum of 7 hours. In the real world we’d make that 5+ hours though - which is still better than pretty much any PC laptop.
The MacBook Pro MC700B/A tends to include OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard as standard, but upgrading to Lion is relatively straightforward and only £20.99 in the Mac App Store.
